WOOD PELLETS

Premium Biomass Fuel

Wood pellets are manufactured from debarked pine waste sourced from FSC approved sustainably managed plantations, providing an easy to use, environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution to owners of wood pellet appliances.

When biomass from wood waste or sustainably managed plantations, are combusted to create energy, the process generates no increased greenhouse gas emissions, a circumstance described as carbon neutrality. The use of wood pellets is seen as a zero-rated fuel and attracts near-zero carbon tax.

BIOMASS VS FOSSIL FUELS

Woody biomass can be differentiated from fossil fuels, because it replenishes itself, or is renewed, within human time of 25 to 30 years in the case of commercial pine plantations, as opposed to geologic time of millions of years, as is the case with fossil fuels, like coal and natural gas. Therefore, the use of biomass fuels like wood pellets result in a positive impact on environmental health.

Fossil fuels are formed from organisms that died millions of years ago and are therefore referred to as a non-renewable energy source. In contrast, because biomass derives from plantation residues, agricultural residues, industrial residues, animal residues, municipal solid waste and sewage – it can always be renewed by replanting new organic matter which is then systematically renewed and recycled as is the case with municipal solid waste and sewage.

In South-Africa, renewable biomass residues from sustainable commercial timber plantations and agriculture used to manufacture wood pellets amount to millions of tons annually, enough to make a substantial difference to the South African energy economy and environment, resulting in positive change.

Wood Pellets are the most energy dense and cleanest form of biomass, and are perfectly suitable for commercial ventures were cleanliness are a prerequisite or space are limited. Today CSE is South Africa’s largest producer of premium grade wood pellets under the brand name Pellet Power

Wood Pellets can economically compete with the following traditional heating fuels, namely;
LPG – Up to 40% less
Paraffin – Up to 25% less
Diesel – Up to 50% less
Electricity (from coal) – Up to 50% less
